TOPIC: As beekeepers, we are the ambassadors of the insect world! Of course we know about honey bees, but what about all of the other pollinators and beneficial insects out there? Is there anything specific we can do to help all of them? This presentation will highlight some of the various bee and beneficial insect species found in Maryland, how to identify them, and what steps can be done to create a more insect-friendly landscape.

WHY you should participate:

  • Learn about the various species of bees in Maryland and the pollination services they provide.
  • Find out about the various beneficial insects in our area, how to identify them in various stages of development, and what insects they prey on.
  • Obtain a working plant pallet, based on current research data about specific plant materials that provide nectar and pollen sources for those insects.

AUTOBIOGRAPHY:

MARIE ROJAS has been providing Integrated Pest Management services for homeowners, nursery growers and property managers through her company, Borders & Butterflies, for over 25 years. She serves on several green industry boards, including the Professional Grounds Management Society D.C. Branch and the Environmental Program Advisory Committee for Montgomery County Public Schools. Marie has also been a Montgomery County Master Gardener since 1994.
Fun fact: Marie is 99.7% Italian, with the rest being Neanderthal! Her favorite pastime is COOKING :-)

You can join using a computer, phone or tablet, but to use a phone or tablet you must first download and install the free Zoom MEETING app from the app store, or by clicking HERE.

Connecting to ZOOM before the meeting starts will give you time to work through potential glitches.

To ASK QUESTIONS during the meeting, TYPE them into the Q&A chat dialog. A club volunteer will monitor questions, then read them aloud so everyone can hear. Please don't 'unmute' your microphone during the meeting.
