County Fair Time!

Aug 11 - 18, 2018

FUN FOR EVERYONE!

Tell your family, friends, neighbors, and colleagues to visit YOU at the Montgomery County Agricultural Fair! (CLICK for general fair info)

MCBA Members can Volunteer to show fair-goers the wonders of honey bees.  We have  THREE very different venues at the fair, and each one gets amazing feedback from appreciative audiences: 'Wow - I didn't know bees did that!"

(1) Bee Demonstrations - in the Gazebo behind Old MacDonald's Barn
While the audience stands safely outside our screened gazebo, you are inches away, wrangling 10's of thousands of bees!  Wow them with your bravery as you open the hive boxes and show how the bees organize their hive and function as one 'super organism'.  They'll get to see you harvest honey, including de-capping the honey comb, spinning the frames in the honey extractor, and bottling the golden product.   Bring your protective gear because this is full frontal  beekeeping.

(2) Honey Bee Education -  in Old MacDonald’s Barn

Our booth in Old MacDonald's Barn is chock full of hands-on fun! Front and center is a glass hive with live bees!  We also have bee models, quiz boards, and Tools of the Trade, like veils, gloves, smokers, etc. MCBA volunteer beekeepers explain it all - including how to find the elusive queen (a real-life 'Where's Waldo'), what the girl-bees do all day, and the lazy life of boy-bees.

(3) Local Honey Sales Booth - in Building #2 "Old Timers Building"

We sell MCBA Member's LOCAL honey and other "products of the hive"  at a large booth inside building #2, Old Timers Building.  Try your new honey in one of our HONEY RECIPES! Any member who'd like to have their products sold at MCBA's booth must volunteer for at least one 4-hour shift at the Fair.
