CONSIGNMENT RULES and PRICING for the 2023 Montgomery County Agricultural Fair

  1. All consignors must be an MCBA, Inc. member in good standing. All consigned items must have been produced by the member.
  2. All consignors must work at least 4 volunteer hours at one of the MCBA, Inc. sponsored display areas during the Montgomery County Fair, August 12 – 19, 2023.   If the consignor is unable to volunteer, they must arrange for another member in good standing to volunteer in their place.  The member volunteering must include this information on their SignUp Genius volunteer application. If the required volunteer hours are not worked by the consignor or their substitute, the consignor’s products will be removed from the sales booth and consignor will forfeit 60% of their retail sales.
  3. 200 Pound Consignment LIMIT:   Members may consign a maximum of 200 pounds of combined honey products.  If MCBA, Inc. is able to accommodate additional consignments, the Superintendent will notify consignors. No exceptions.
  4. All consignors must submit a completed CONSIGNMENT PARTICIPATION FORM before August, 6th to have their products sold at the fair. THE LINK TO THE PARTICIPATION FORM is at the bottom of these rules.
  5. All consignors must enter honey or hive products for show in the this year's Montgomery County Fair Honey Show. Ribbons and prize money may be awarded as appropriate.
  6. All consignment items must be appropriately packaged and labeled. Standard honey product containers are required. Each product must be labeled with the item’s net weight shown in both Imperial and Metric units. (e.g. pounds/ounces and grams),  and the consignor's name (or apiary name) and address. All soaps, lip balms, creams, etc. must also list ingredients AND each item must be marked with its price.
  7. Products are accepted on a consignment basis only.  Consignors will be paid only for products actually sold.  Checks will be mailed to consignors within six weeks after the fair closes.
  8. The MCBA, Inc., Fair Committee determines the final retail sales prices, listed below, which include a 10% commission for MCBA, Inc. to cover Fair operating expenses for the club.
  9. The Fair Committee reserves the right to refuse any items not suitable for sale, such as items that have a poor appearance, crystallized honey, sticky jars, improperly filled jars, dirty items, and off-flavor items. All honey placed on consignment must be less than 18.3% water.  A sample from each consignor will be tested by the show superintendent using a properly calibrated refractometer. All products must be packaged to protect them from damage.
  10. Honey is sold on an equal basis as to type and variety. Each supplier of a particular variety will have equal opportunity to sell the same amount of honey.
  11. DELIVERY: All honey and hive products must be delivered to the Farm and Garden Building on Friday, August 11th between 10 AM – 4 PM or Saturday, August 12th between 8:30 AM – 2 PM. Be sure to obtain a receipt for all items placed on consignment. MCBA, Inc. takes no responsibility for items left for consignment without a signed receipt.
  12. PICK-UP:  All unsold products must be picked up by the consignor on Sunday, August 20th between 10 AM – 2 PM, unless otherwise arranged. All items not picked up will become the property of MCBA, Inc. or will be donated to charity.

2022 Retail Prices listed below.  Consignees will receive the retail price, minus 10% MCBA commission, and possibly minus Maryland state sales tax.
