Honey Label Guidelines

Want to sell honey at an MCBA event? Your jar label must meet these criteria:

  • The word “honey” must be visible on the label.
  • The net weight of the honey in both pounds/ounces and in metric grams must be included on the front label, for example (a) 16 oz (454 g); (b) 8 oz (227 g); and (c) use the government conversion of one ounce (oz) = 28.3495 grams; rounding after making the conversion.
  • The name and full address of the producer are required to appear on the label. Post Office Box addresses are not acceptable. Consumers must be able to contact the person who put the product on the market. Minimum type size is 1/16th of an inch (font size at least 4.5 points).
  • Including phone number or email address is optional.
  • Claims about the floral source, “orange blossom honey” for example, must be truthful and supported with evidence. You do not have to declare the floral source of the honey.

Notes:
(1) MCBA guidelines apply to honey sales at all MCBA-sponsored events.
(2) Guidelines are for pure honey products, i.e., without added ingredients, originating within the USA.
(3) A regular address label, such as return address labels used on envelopes, may be used to supplement the product label.
