A BEE PRESENTATION
FOR YOUR GROUP!
Montgomery County Beekeepers Association has an outreach program for bee-curious groups. Our volunteer speakers are all hobbyist beekeepers with day jobs, so scheduling is easier evenings and weekends.
Why do we give away our time? Bees are very important pollinators (the most delicious foods we eat need honey bees to grow), but most people don't get a chance to learn about their fascinating, busy lives.
- Do you know how much honey one honey bee can produce in its entire lifetime? Only 1/12th of a teaspoon of honey! So where does all the honey come from??
- Did you know bees travel up to 2 miles from their home to bring nectar, water, and pollen back to their colony?
- Did you know that worker bees have special 'baskets' on their hind legs they use to collect pollen?
- Did you know when the queen lays an unfertilized egg, it becomes a male bee (called a drone)?
This is just a taste of the fun things to learn about honey bees. And speaking of 'taste', how about trying some honey, straight from the hive!
