NON-HONEY Consignment Rules

MCBA Guidelines for consigning and labeling ITEMS OTHER THAN liquid, creamed, comb or chunk honey

  1. Consignors declare that they are the producers of all consigned items.
  2. Consignors to set the price for each of their non-honey products.
  3. Consignors to submit a Consignment Participation Form, including the net weight and price, for each product.
  4. For items sold, Consignors to receive the item’s price less 16%, representing the Club’s commission (10%) and State of Maryland sales tax (6%).
  5. Each item (for example, each lip balm) to be marked with its price by the Consignor. Un-priced items will not be accepted.
  6. The net weight of non-honey items to be listed on the label in lbs. or ounces. Metric listing is optional. [“Net weight” is the weight of the product only, and does not include the weight of the container.]
  7. Recognizing that bars of soap may vary slightly in weight, their labels may state a minimum weight. For example, “Min. weight 3.5 oz.” would indicate that the soap may weigh slightly more than 3.5 oz., but not less.
  8. With the exception of items made from wood, plastic or other non-hive materials, each item’s label to include its ingredients, listed in the descending order of predominance.
  9. Candles are considered cosmetics by the Food & Drug Administration. Labels to include weight and ingredients. Taper lengths should also be included (on the label or packaging).
  10. All product labels or packaging must include the address of the consignor, including street address, city, state, and ZIP code. Per the FDA, a post office box or website address is not adequate.
  11. Additions and/or substitutions of products to be consigned will not be accepted after the Consignment Participation Form deadline.
