Saturday, June 26, 2021
9:00 am – 12:00 pm
Location: Rockville MD (address to be sent to registrants)
Cost: $25
Class is limited to 15 participants.
Required: Be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
Suggestion: Bring a folding chair – 3 hours is a long time to stand

This hands on class is designed for the backyard beekeeper with at least four hives who
would like to raise a few queens each season using the grafting method.

It will cover

(1) the equipment needed to raise a few queens,

(2) the overall process of preparing a starter
and mating nucs, and

(3) hands-on grafting so that participants can get a feel for how it is
done.

Participants need to have at least four colonies to have enough resources for
building a starter and a mating nuc. Simple queen rearing can be done with a $20
investment in equipment and knowing a few tricks to make it easier to graft.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR:  Russell Sprangel is President of Carroll County Beekeepers Association. He is active in
the club all year long and attends all most every outreach event in which CCBA is
involved. He enjoys educating the community on the benefits of beekeeping and
supporting all pollinators. Russell assists in teaching new and experienced beekeepers at
the CCBA training apiary, demonstrating everything from lighting a smoker to queen
rearing.
