Topic

What do you say to non-beekeepers when they ask how they can help bees? You'll have a ready-made answer if you attend this meeting!

Guest speaker LISA KUDER will share her research on how to increase pollinator habitat, both at home, and on the road(side). It's an important topic, of course, because volume and diversity of food sources greatly affect your bees' health and native bees' health, too.

Montgomery County maintains a lot of roadside acres. What should we ask county leaders to do differently to produce a windfall of bee-forage plants? What about your own lawn? Learn how to upgrade your yard to get the biggest bee-bang for your efforts -- It may entail less work than you are doing now!

Bio

Lisa Kuder is a PhD Candidate in Dennis vanEngelsdorp’s Bee Lab at UMD, College Park. Her research focuses on pollinator habitat along highway rights-of-way, specifically developing Best Management Practices for roadside meadow management. Her work with MD DOT and extensive outreach activities give her a unique perspective on the demand and requirements for sustainable lawn alternatives. In response to this demand, Lisa has initiated a partnership with Wildflower Turf UK and is leading efforts to commercialize a region-appropriate, urban meadow sod for the Chesapeake Bay Watershed.
