Pierre Lau presents his Bee Nutrition Research

AGENDA:

TALK DESCRIPTION:
What nutrition do bees need, and what happens if they don't get it?
To find out, researcher Pierre Lau set up very creative experiments and published over 15 papers on his findings (click here to see them). Tonight he'll explain his decade-long quest for answers, and tell us how his results can help us help our bees.

Pierre Lau has graciously permitted MCBA to make the recording of his presentation available to you:

AUTOBIOGRAPHY

PIERRE LAU is completing his Ph.D. research at Texas A&M under the direction of Dr. Juliana Rangel. He developed an appreciation for the outdoors at an early age as an Eagle Scout and decided to pursue a career related to environmental science. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Environmental Systems from the University of California, San Diego. Pierre started his pollination research 10 years ago on a project studying native bee pollination efficiency on a watermelon agroecosystem. Since then, he has been researching various aspects of honey bee health with an emphasis on nutrition. He is currently a USDA NIFA Predoctoral Fellow focused on using honey bee foraging to better understand their nutritional preferences, specifically protein-to-lipid ratios within pollen resources.
